The Forgotten ARU

Before my mother passed, I put an audio recording unit (ARU) out on a property I surveyed last year. I figured equipped with a better undertsanding of the analysis software from all the testing I did last year I would run one here again. Put it out and set it up to record in 15 min increments...for 12 hours a day(30 min every hour/24 hours day). I had intended to retrieve this unit after about a week. I left it out there for a month. Sure, it's a good chunk of data for my purposes of getting presence/absence and call variations to fine tune analysis. But...

1060 samples at 15 minutes a piece

52GB of sound recording data.

I guess it's good I finally got the second workstation from work to dedicate to processing all of this (setting this up is it's own post). I plan to test out a few different options of analysis programs to compare/contrast and then customize one for my region.

I did test run one of the analysis programs on my laptop when I was at the office proper this week. First time I have ever seen the battery on the laptop drain even when plugged in.

I'll do a deeper dive into ARUs in a future post.
